Micro-credential Program

Formative Assessment Through Effective Questioning & Discussion

A competency-based professional learning program from Classical Learning Universe that teaches educators explicit, evidence-based instructional strategies that enable them to reach all students with a specific focus on struggling students.

Why Enroll in the Formative Assessment Through Effective Questioning & Discussion Program?

The Formative Assessment through Effective Questioning & Discussion micro-credential program is designed to enable teachers to incorporate effective, robust questioning in the classroom. If the questioning process is effective, the questions themselves become continuous formative assessments, constantly informing teachers exactly where their children are while learning something new. The strategies shared allow teachers to assess and guide instruction immediately via formative assessments, provide feedback, check for understanding and generate classroom discussions. Strategies in this program are all modeled, guided and tested by the presenter, and can be applied immediately in the classroom.

Creating Rigorous Questions: Effective Differentiation Strategies

Utilizing Webb’s Depth of Knowledge levels, educator plans for and employs robust questioning as a formative assessment to check students’ understanding and inform instruction.

Differentiating Text-dependent Questioning

Educator creates text-dependent questions as formative assessments to determine mastery of students’ learning, elicit higher-order thinking, and effectively structure differentiated instruction by designing questions of increased complexity based on Webb’s Depth of Knowledge Levels and students’ levels of proficiency.

Creating Formative Assessments

After accessing the rationale of planning for and utilizing frequent check for understanding techniques provided in Classical Learning Universe’s digital PD module, Checking for Understanding, the educator applies his/her augmented knowledge to ensure students’ mastery of content in real time, increase student engagement, and inform instructional next steps.

Providing Effective Corrective Feedback

Educator provides the necessary three types of instructional, specific and immediate feedback – Echo, Elaborate and Explain (based on student responses) to guide the next instructional steps.

Collaborative Discussions: Effective Strategies for Differentiation

Educator plans for and provides opportunities in daily lessons for students to participate in small-group peer discussions, generates prompts that extend conversations and promote higher-level thinking, and implements strategies to efficiently reconvene groups back to whole-group instruction.

The Formative Assessment through Effective Questioning & Discussion micro-credential program provides a vehicle for a teacher, school or district to access competency based professional development customized to meet their needs. This workshop, directly aligned to the Danielson Framework for Teaching and other evaluation tools, can be self-directed by a teacher or groups of teachers or can also be used to help an administrator provide specific, individualized professional learning based on an individual teacher’s particular growth needs.

Participants are introduced to field-proven, explicit instructional strategies developed by master teachers that work with your most naïve students and can be immediately implemented in the classroom. Participants will learn robust questioning strategies, how to use these strategies as formative assessments, and how to use the data collected to guide and customize instruction. The program is interactive and offers embedded mastery tests to assess progress.

Why Micro-credentials Matters

Each micro-credential earned signifies that an educator has met the profession’s highest standards for demonstrated practice of a specific competency. Together, with our state, district, and training development partners, we are advancing the next generation of professional learning while bringing cohesion, transparency, and professionalism to the profession.

What’s in a Micro-credential

A micro-credential is a form of micro-certification earned by demonstrating competency in one specific skill at a time, via a portfolio of evidence, created through classroom practice.

Micro-credentials on BloomBoard follow the ADDIE instructional design framework. Each micro-credential is based on a robust, standardized blueprint, grounded in instructional design best practices.
