Pies in the face. Executives on tricycles. Yummy breakfast burritos and homemade lunches. River bed clean-ups. Stuffing backpacks for kids. Bake sales, walks and runs. Our coworkers love doing their part to both raise money for charities and serve on the front lines. It’s true – it IS more blessed to give than receive. Just ask our charity volunteers as we recap what our offices have been up to all year.

Celebrating the opportunity to give

Here’s a recap of what happened at many offices this year, as well as what’s to come in December. Choose one or all offices listed below to see what they accomplished in 2016.

What’s in store for the rest of 2016?

We want to recognize our hardworking coworkers who are dedicated to making their communities a better place. Don't forget to nominate your top pick for the 2016 Volunteer of the Year award here. The winner will be announced at the end of December.

As for ongoing charity initiatives around the country, prior to Thanksgiving, both the Carlsbad and San Diego crews are participating in the annual Pie in the Sky Bake Sale fundraiser for Mama's Kitchen. One pie provides seven meals for local San Diego men, women and children fighting cancer and AIDS.

In December, San Diego is participating in the heart-warming Salvation Army Adopt-A-Family gift collection, fulfilling the wish lists for two San Diego families in need. The wish lists will be provided right before Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping days.

Meanwhile, Carlsbad will be collecting toys for the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program Dec. 5 - 16. New, unwrapped toys are collected and given to less fortunate children in the San Diego County community. You can make a monetary donation or find a local toy drop off location.

Overland Park is holding a Thanksgiving competition to build the best canned food display, with donations to City Union Mission in Kansas City. Last year the team donated over 1,400 cans of food and are planning to top that this year. At Christmas they will again be donating to the Gillis Center, providing new gifts for their Gift Gallery. The Gift Gallery provides an opportunity for families who receive services from Gillis to “shop” for Christmas gifts free of charge.

Did we miss your office’s holiday giving plans? Let us know so we can report on our next update.

Earn PTO for volunteering

Our company recognizes employees who volunteer their time to help organizations across the world. Our Community Service Volunteer Plan enables all employees to take two paid days off per year to volunteer for a not-for-profit agency. There is a 4-hour minimum volunteer requirement; participation can include serving food at a shelter, beach clean-up, raising money through walks, etc.

If you participate on a workday, the community service form must be completed and submitted to your direct manager prior to the requested day and is subject to their approval. Credit can be given for volunteer participation on the weekend subject to prior management approval. Managers are then responsible to forward an employee's completed volunteer form to Human Resources. If you have questions, please contact HR.

Remember, employee participation is entirely voluntary
and not required by Arrowhead, American Claims Management, OnPoint or Bellingham.
